Hey all,
I’ve decided to put ThriftCraft on indefinite hiatus. Trying to separate out the thrifted part of my life into a separate blog seems to have been a mistake. Working with thrifted materials is such a huge part of all my work that it’s hard to mete out projects and posts…one here, one over there, when really they belong all together. I get so sad that t.c. sits here neglected while I put all my free time into Wee Wonderfuls so I’m bringing her back into the fold. I’ve been trying to think of a solution for keeping t.c. going on its own but I don’t even have the time to sit still and think it through so that tells me I’m making the right decision. But I can’t let go all together so for right now it’s a hiatus. In the meantime all my thifty finds and crafts will be found over at wee wonderfuls.
Thanks so much to all of you who have stopped by!

I’m loving Courtney’s cuddly vase cozy made from a thrifted sweater.

In a variation on a theme here are some wrapped bud vases I made a while ago. Not so warm and fuzzy but I was happy with how they turned out. I cut strips from thrifted curtains and hot glue gunned them onto juice glasses also found at the thrift store. I should dig them out now that there are actually buds out and about.

look what I found this week at an estate sale… fashion plates!! only my most beloved childhood toy. I’ve been eyeballing them on ebay on and off for years. the auctions will get to high and then I’ll forget about them for a while and then I’ll remember and become obsessed. now the dance is over, they are mine! and for only $8.50

I can’t help myself when it comes to the huge basket of cast off ornaments at a garage sale.

I love this little guy. Very decole I think!

this cute stripey blouse uploaded to the nifty thrift pool by lilyofthevalley (don’t miss her wonderful outfit set) reminded me some ruffle ideas I was working on a while back. I always look for things with ruffles when I’m thrifting. so much easier to cut out pre-made ruffles and repurpose them than to make your own. I thought the secretary blouse ruffle would be so cute as a headband (turned out too bouffy) or a cuff…

or I tried to put the whole ruffled button band down the front of a skirt. this only made it to the pinning stage and was never sewed down. I still like the concept but I don’t think the red is working and is as one of my friends described, kinda gross.

ok, this may be the end of my thriftcrafting. I went down to the basement, where I store all my thrifted wares, to see if I could find anything to make into a new summer bag. But what did I find, only the biggest, hairiest, most disgusting, special effects jurassic frikkin centepede/bug/monster I’ve ever seen! seriously like 4″ long. I’ve been steeling myself against bugs, you know raising a boy and all, but this thing has terrified me like nothing before. don’t think I’ll be able to make it down to the basement for a looong time. time to go back through the iPhoto and see if there are any old projects or thriftscores I may have missed that I can throw up here while I figure out a plan for the basement.

we had an ok morning at the sales on saturday. once again, sales listed as ‘huge, multi-family sales’ were one garage full of the crappiest crap around. but we had a little luck at one nice legit sale with lots of kids stuff and found these great pull toys. and I’m all about the pull toys lately so they were lucky finds.

but I don’t know if I can take garage saleing anymore. our last stop on our circuit was this rotten experience that may have turned me off it for the rest of the summer. this sale was listed as lots of ‘great old collectibles’ and in actuality was some sort of makeshift flea market/antique sale. I don’t know where this guy got his stuff but it wasn’t from his basement. lots vintage linens and glass all at outrageous (for a garage sale) prices. they were totally up in our grill the whole time - hard selling and tailing me because I had oscar with me. and they were really rude to oscar. um, yeah, don’t list it as a garage sale if you don’t want 2 year olds there. what’s with all the false advertising?
